Lockrose
Another great story from Vision Granny Flats, the Granny Flat Building Experts…
OVERVIEW:
- Family home purchased 2012
- Flat land on a corner position
- 4,047m2 block (1 acre)
- Gorgeous lowset Queenslander with 2 street access
- Ageing mum wanting independent living with daughter and family
DETAILS:
Mum was wanting to downsize but still be able to retain her independent living. She has had mobility concerns as her years were progressing and so was looking to also cater for these needs.
The family had bought and settled in a rural residential area with plenty of space to potentially build a self contained place for mum. The timing couldn’t have been better – mum has just sold her own home and ready to go!!
Now to work out what we can build and where!
There were a number of buildings on the site such as a large garage for car accommodation and storage, an existing site shed, very large water tank supplying the existing house, chook pens and large native trees throughout the property. So whilst 4,000m2 sounds big, in reality there were restrictions in terms of actual placement of the proposed new granny flat.
With some negotiation with the local council about placement of the granny flat because of existing site constraints, the site and design was settled upon.
The interior design was done in conjunction with the owner to include some wants and needs. An interesting design idea were scissor roof trusses.
Not a huge amount more in terms of cost, but it certainly gives it the WOW factor!!
A major consideration for the owner of the granny flat was a ramp to be able to guide her electric wheelchair for access to the lovely timber deck. Whilst designing the internal space, there was thought for placement of furniture, wheel chair access and ease of mobility inside.
